Chitkara University Professors Idea Stand Winners of UN Influx-Global Hackathon 2017 and are now Part of UN Crowdfunding of World-Changing Ideas

Chitkara University today announced that its professors teamed up project entitled ‘Paperless Erasable Magnetic Braille Slate’ was presented at UN Influx – a global hackathon at CIS Chandigarh from March 10-12, 2017 and is adjudged as the winner in first place. The final round of presentations were held at UN Headquarters, New York on May 15-16, 2017 and the project made it to the UN crowdfunding of world-changing ideas. Chitkara University has a dedicated research concept, Chitkara University Research & Innovation Network (CURIN). CURIN helps in patent facilitation licensing and consultancy that provides a complete handholding to its students, staff and faculty members from ideation to patenting. UN Influx Global Hackathon 2017 aims to inspire the creation of world-changing startups around three of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. All 21 winning ideas will be placed on UN bespoke crowdfunding platform where the whole world will be able to view, find, discuss ideas, invest their time (mentorship) or money (donate/invest) and participate in the newborn ideas. Paperless Erasable Braille Slate Project is aimed at transforming society for better education. As per a report developed by UNESCO and survey done by the UN as an example, In India, percentage of kids with disabilities still out of school: UN. This is not only a serious issue in India but also acts as a challenging problem all over the world. To provide basic education in primary schools of physically-disabled children is a challenge when compared to the students of the mainstream society.

The team involved three inventors from Chitkara University namely, Dr. Amandeep Singh Oberoi, Dr. Virender Kadyan and Mr. Vinay Kukreja. A patent has been filed based upon the proposed project bearing Patent Filing No: 201611033447. The team applies continuous efforts to help needy people by utilizing their technical skill and education experience for improving the education system of blind children.

Elaborating on the project, Dr. Kadyan (key contributor to the project), Assistant Professor at Chitkara University said, “Our project target is to support these blind children and provide education to them. They have special schools and use special language (such as Braille) for their education. During the initial stage of learning Braille language, they adopt a Braille slate, thick paper, sharp stylus to make impressions on paper. With the advancement in technology, there has been manifold progress in all the sectors. Similarly, the invention of Traditional Braille Slate leads to a revolution for the people who are visually impaired.”

Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) is enabling Unemployed Youth to secure jobs through its Finishing Schools

DALLAS, HYDERABAD, USA, EUROPE, INDIA, June 1, 2017 —

Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) today announced that it has completed 26 Finishing School batches in Telangana with an average success rate of 50% overall in placing the students in various organizations. Prior to formation of TASK in Telangana, a small percentage of youth graduating out of the colleges were securing jobs and the rest struggled to make their mark due to lack of employability skills.

In 2015, TASK was established for enhancing the employability skills of the youth in Telangana under the dynamic leadership of Honorable Minister Mr. KT Rama Rao.

One of the unique initiatives launched through TASK was Finishing School, where the unemployed youth are trained in relevant Technology, Soft Skills and are extended placement assistance with corporates.

TASK not only helps unemployed youth, but also offers skill training to School/College dropouts. TASK has also been instrumental in running specialized Finishing School batches for People with Disabilities (PWDs) to improve their employable skills and assists them in getting jobs. The Finishing School batches to PWDs and BPL youth are extended free of cost and highly subsidized for others.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sujiv Nair, CEO -TASK said – Through the Finishing School concept TASK has made a humble beginning towards creating hope for unemployed youth through skilling.  This concept also address’s one of the key focus areas of the Honorable Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao Garu in creation of Golden Telangana.

Finishing School is an 8-12 weeks focused skilling program based on industry needs. Technologies focused for these Finishing School include C, C++, Java, Core Java, Microsoft Technologies, Mobile Applications on Android, Software Development, Testing, VLSI, Electrical Substation Design ,Basics of Pharmaceutical Activities, Office Administration, Selling & Retail Skills and Phlebotomy which were delivered in collaboration with local, national and international organizations.

The youth were also oriented around personal and organizational skills which helped them in preparing for interviews and understanding corporate culture. The youth from these finishing schools secured jobs in several organizations that include IT, ITES, Retail, Sales, Pharmaceuticals, BFSI, Healthcare and Life Sciences.
